Solar Titans Player Board Preview

See the preview of our prototype player boards for the Solar Titans mini expansion. All content and art is work-in-progress, but we are excited to share the concept with you and welcome your feedback.

The intent of the new player boards is to introduce a new layer of strategy and planning, while also offering more options to mitigate luck. Need more damage output or bring a weapon back online? Focus on Engineering. Worried about flanking attacks or vulnerable components? Focus on Technology. Want to expedite a purchased card or replace your hand? Focus on Logistics.

We will continue to playtest the player boards, and at the same time we are exploring a few new ship weapon and armor card ideas.

During your play of Solar Titans, is there any weapon or armor you wish you had in the game? We'd like to hear from you on this post!

Announcing... Sunshine Cities!

As a surprise for our fans, we are excited to announce Sunshine Cities, a serene city tile laying and bag building game that's available now to play for free on Tabletop Simulator and print-and-play!

Grab a cup of coffee or tea, visit our landing page to learn more and try it out!

Sunshine Cities is designed as a meditative, calm experience with the theme of city building. It is inspired by games like Sim City, A Gentle Rain, and Dorfromantik. It is still in development with all content and art in prototype stage, but it is fully playable.

The game is designed ideally for solo play for 15-30 minute sessions. It is intended to be light and relaxing, while still involving some strategy and planning.

To give some background: While working on Solar Titans expansion, we wanted to occasionally play something relaxing and cooperative. We enjoy games with tile laying mechanics. We also loved classic city building games like Sim City and wanted to convey the feeling of city building.

Sunshine Cities is a very different theme from Solar Titans. It is intended to be a lighter, calm experience - but we hope you will enjoy the variety. Try it out over the weekend, and let us know if you like it!

Expansion Update - Players boards
over 1 year ago – Sun, Aug 04, 2024 at 03:28:34 PM

Hi folks, we want to share a quick update regarding the Solar Titans expansion content! We recently explored a new player board that re-imagines and replaces the gameplay offered by the 10 unique ship card modules. We're excited by the new player boards and look forward to sharing more details after more play testing.

Throughout our previous testing, we weren't satisfied with the amount of new gameplay offered by the randomized unique ship module cards. Players were constrained to having one additional power, varied in how useful it was in each game, and it didn't offer a lot of new decision-making space. We set a high bar for our expansion, and we believe the new player boards offer a much better experience.

The player boards allow captains to charge up one of three lanes - Engineering, Technology, or Logistics - during gameplay to activate important gameplay mechanics. Players gain 1 charge every turn, and can activate one of two special powers upon reaching 3 charges in a lane.

The player boards takes the best powers and gives players the agency to decide which ones to prioritize depending on the situation. Each of the powers offer an opportunity to mitigate chance events, so players have the chance to perform critical actions when they really need it. Players strategically decide which powers to prioritize and when to activate it.

Our next step is to continue to playtest this new player board, and we'll share more sneak peeks once we are confident that this is the direction we want to take!

Solar Titans Reprint & New Content
almost 2 years ago – Sat, May 18, 2024 at 08:11:10 PM

Announcing a new KS campaign!

Dear friends, almost one year after we launched our first campaign, we are pleased to announce the Solar Titans Reprint & New Content campaign on Kickstarter! If you are interested, please follow our preview page now:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sunnysideupgames/solar-titans-reprint

New Content 1: Expansion Pack

In addition to a reprint of the Solar Titans core game, we are designing a mini expansion that adds 10 fully unique ship modules. Similar to unique player powers in other deck-builders, each module offers distinct, asymmetrical abilities to give new tactical options for players.

The distinct twist in Solar Titans is that each unique ship module is still a physical part of the ship, so players will need to choose carefully where to install it initially, how they will protect it, and whether they will target the opponent's unique ship module. These unique modules are also designed to be compatible for all multiplayer modes and solo / co-op mode - adding new gameplay and replayability!

New Content 2: Player Mats

By popular demand, we plan to design player mats with unique space-themed art commissioned from our team of artists. These player mats will be large (potentially 22" x 15") and include subtle 6x6 grids to layout your capital ship, making it easier to set up, pick up, and flip ship cards during gameplay. It can also double as a playmat for the market.

New Content 3: Refreshed Box Design and AI Ship Sheets

We have refreshed the box design with some subtle updates. By popular demand, we will also update the AI ship sheets to be thicker card stock material. All other content within the core game remains exactly the same, but we wanted to take the opportunity to act on player feedback!
